What Worked

Here are some outfits I saw today that worked quite well.

On the Metro, into the City, I saw a man executing, quite exquisitely, a casual navy button down (with white crew neck undershirt) over khaki shorts and simple sandals. Add to it what many would consider perfectly coiffed hair, and the subtle but important Ray-Ban Wayfarers tucked in the chest pocket and you get a formula for classic summer casual. The guy looked like a relaxed Freddie Prinze, Jr. And that's a good thing. The subtlety of it all made it even more impressive

Shirt: American Eagle for $30
Shorts: J. Press for $60
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban Wayfarer for $145
Undershirt: Ralph Lauren, 3 for $32
Sandals (not shown): Havaianas for $18-$32

Leaving the city on the Metro, I encountered a perfectly put together impromptu summer suit: a blazer, slim pants, knit tie, light shirt, and loafers. Grab the items below and pair with a lightweight (linen or poplin always do the trick), light-color (think sea foam green and other pastels) button down. No socks (seriously).

Blazer: L.L. Bean for $119
Tie: Ralph Lauren for $75
Shoes: Sperry Top-Sider for $91
Pants: Ralph Lauren for $98

Keep an eye out for more of What Worked Today...
